Darnika Development and Services Organization
Across the Globe, We Are United in Our Dedication to Children’s Rights
Who We Are
Why was this organization established?
According to the situation that existed in 2016, societies were suffering from extreme level of poverty and misery and the violence against women and children seemed to be on peak. Therefore, a number of women, especially Ms. Najila Akbary, Ms. Suraya Sediqi and Mrs. Sultana Hashimi collectively established the Darnika Development and Services Organization (DDSO) with their own funding to make women and children aware of their basic rights and how they could deal to prevent the poverty, deficiency, family violence and economic problems and also to make women self-sufficient. The DDSO founders aimed to establish the organization so that they can serve the suffering people of their society.

— Our Story
In 2018, Darnika Development and Services Organization (DDSO) implemented an “Awareness Raising on Children’s and Women’s Rights” project in District 6, Gulbagh area of Kabul. The project aimed to increase community awareness about the importance of girls’ education and the rights of women and children.
At that time, many families in the area allowed girls to study only until grade three. Through community awareness sessions and discussions with families, DDSO encouraged parents to support their daughters’ education. As a result, about 50% of families agreed to allow their daughters to continue their education up to grade twelve.
Maryam was one of these girls. She had stopped studying after grade three, but during the awareness sessions her mother requested support so that her daughter could continue her education. With the support of DDSO staff and Maryam’s strong motivation to learn, she was enrolled in a government school and continued her studies.
Today, Maryam has successfully opened a small health clinic in her community, where she provides basic health services such as serum application, injections, and primary care for women with health concerns.
Maryam’s story shows how awareness, community support, and access to education can change the life of a girl and help her contribute to the wellbeing of her community
